Can you tell the difference between commodore blue (1958) and fathom blue (1959)? I can’t. If there’s a difference, how would you explain it?
Also, this picture is of the tiller handle (grip) from my 1958 fastwin. It’s the same as the 57/58 FD models, but he s it correct? I’m new to evinrudes and don’t have any catalogs. Marine engine just refers evinrude inquiries to the johnson pages.

No, that is a Johnson Grip.

If I remember correctly, the ’58 has a bit more metallic in it and is a touch lighter blue? The ’59 seems a bit more flat to me and a shade darker blue to me.

Side by side advertisements. Not sure many guys would be able to call you out if you swapped paints!

Well, the 58 commodore blue is a bit darker than the 59 blue color. The colors in those ads don’t mean much. The 58 Evinrude grips are white, but don’t have those four fluted grips….The Evinrude grips have many shallow ribs instead.
Why is it that you ask about the two different colors?

I’m trying to find a new tiller handle. You may be able to tell from the photo that mine is broken. I’m having no luck so far with a 1958 replacement so i’m wondering if a 1959 would match.

1959 will surely work, but the blue will be slightly lighter….I’m sure I have what you need, PM me if you like…Don
