….So, ive had this rbm for a while and im trying to do a good job on the restoration. the tank is reletively fixed with the exception of solder and blemishes. im wondering what is the best kind of solder to use? also the minor denting on the front is irritating. i figured i would put some primer/filler on it and sand it smooth. i tryd to press it with flat peices of metal and a c clamp, which worked somewhat, but as you can see there are still blemishes. any thoughts?

Soldering these tanks back together is still a
learning process for me so this may not be
the best but its what use. As the joints have
already been soldered they can be considered
tined so I use straight solder that doesn’t have
any flux. If I have a spot that the solder
doesn’t take I’ll clean it out as best I can and
use a little soldering paste there. Using a torch
you don’t want the flame on the solder. Instead
you apply the heat near the joint so the joint
gets hot enough to melt the solder. The flame
will burn the flux and will keep the two surfaces
from bonding. As far as the dents its basic body
work. If you don’t have any experience in getting
your tank perfectly straight the razed parts
of these tanks make it even more difficult.
There are any number of videos on you tube on
how smooth dents out. This one is probably
as good as any. He says he’s not going to take to
long but as with most you tube videos you will have
to endure 25 min. chit chat for 5 min. of information.
There is a learning curve. Some people pick it up
rather quickly while others never learn to do it well.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
