From an older post here:
If you have to change the prop and drive shaft seals, I just did my 4425 and 4423 Rudes and used SKF 5523 and 4770 seals. They aren’t snap in like the originals but with a bit of adhesive sealer they will work.
Them’s the SKF part numbers! Would have to compare P/N’s between 4423/4425 and Zephyr gearcase seals to see if they will work.
Mumbles, I just looked at the parts diagrams for the 4425 Sportsman
and the 4404 Zephyr, and they do show the same part number for
the prop shaft seal. Good to know, Thanks.I had an old NOS same style seal in my stash, with the center rib,
but the ID was was too sloppy…….. not sure what model it is for.Prepare to be boarded!
June 22, 2021 at 9:13 am #240903The 5523 seal…..
Duralip (Lip Code: D)
Shaft 0.563
Bore 0.875
OD 0.879
Width 0.188
==============
The 4770 does not show up in the SKF database any more, but
there’s an old one on EBay for $16.90 plus shipping.
The 5523 you can get for about a dozen donuts.Worst thing is, you’re probably going to need two seals for the prop shaft,
being they’re so skinny. The original one was about 3/4″ deep.Prepare to be boarded!
June 22, 2021 at 11:18 am #240913I’m pretty sure I still have a couple prop shaft seals left in the box as I bought a lot of five. I’d have to hunt for them as they went into storage last year during a reno and when I find them I’ll take some photos. The 4423/4425 motors got only one as the lip seals the shaft and whatever sealer/adhesive I used sealed the OD.
I can’t remember which one but one seal is quite large in diameter and went above the ball bearing on the driveshaft. The smaller ones went on the prop shaft.

June 22, 2021 at 11:27 am #240916Thanks Mumbles.
Got the last four of the new piston rings today in the mail. I had to order them
from two different vendors to get all eight, so evidently they’re getting scarce.
Not sure if my friend in Greece sells any that will fit or not.I’m debating whether or not I should open the power head up on this current
Zephyr that has enough compression to run, but the numbers are spread apart
a ways, or save the rings for one of my other Zephyrs that may need more help.
Decisions, decisions!Prepare to be boarded!

Hope that helps,
JoeJune 22, 2021 at 6:58 pm #240970You needed Zephyr rings? Let me know if you do another build as I have some NOS pistons with rings and also some loose rings left. All standard size.
Thanks Mumbles, P.M. Sent.
Prepare to be boarded!
