      The story as I heard it is that the Alnico magnets were invented during WWII and used in gyroscopes. So you won’t find them in pre-war motors if that is true.

        That is true, They were developed under a Government contract with General Electric and came out in 1944. Irgie started on a magneto to use them. Dad brought home a few in ’45 that were chipped while they were adjusting the insertion machine. The first Evinrudes to use these came out in 1947, (A lot of 1946 motors were re re-decaled 1942 motors that could not be sold because of the war.) , , , 😎
