Very little written in service manuals regarding float drop for Johnson and Evinrude motors.
Found this in a Gale service manual. Would this measurement be applicable for my 67 33?

I have never checked it, that I can recall. I just assumed they dropped until they hit the bottom of the bowl. I am probably wrong about that.

I’ve usually seen it the other way around – with the carb body inverted, the float should be level with the carb body.  I’ve always adjusted the float this way and never had any problems.

Likewise what billw and bobw said.  As for the drop, I just eyeball it.  Good ’nuff

I have never understood the purpose behind a float drop adjustment.  Why would it matter?  Assuming that the bowl was not deep enough for the float to drop so far that the needle could fall out…….

              Someone please explain please?

must be spin off from the merc carbs….

as long as my toilet bowl ball rises and shuts of the  water  I don’t care  how deep it drops  🙂

That’s basically where I got the idea regarding a second measurement, after the first measurement for the float being level when held the other way. I always set up my 71 135 HP inline Merc using the procedure below.
I guess I’m overthinking OMC basic carb setup procedures.

It occurred to me that possibly it’s to keep the float from laying on the bottom
of the float bowl as the gas dries up while the motor is not being used, especially
through the winter. The float could get stuck on the bottom? Just guessing.
