I’m working on a 1957 7.5 evinrude and there is some damage from someone trying to remove it . Question can I try to use it as is ? I put it in a flat surface and it doesn’t seem warped . Maybe it will be out of balance though. Apparently it may never have been taken off because it has cracked coils.
March 10, 2018 at 12:53 am #72279Well, I’m guessing that damage occurred when someone was trying to hold the flywheel in place while loosening the flywheel nut…
Look carefully for cracks, then try it out…You will know if it is bent badly or horribly out of balance….March 10, 2018 at 12:54 am #72280My guess is that it will be ok to run for now, but I would be on the lookout for a replacement. There should be plenty of those around. Those cracked coils are a beautiful site, should be a good motor!
March 10, 2018 at 2:35 am #72288Believe that flywheel is part #580217. Check out used parts at:
thebrazilianconnection.com
(see portal to their outboard parts at lower right of their home page)
They routinely have salvaged flywheels for like $15-$20.

March 10, 2018 at 4:11 pm #72304I’d replace it. I have one from a 54 evinrude 7.5 hp you can have for shipping if it fits.
I have some parts manuals and can check later today on compatibility.
Scott BMarch 10, 2018 at 4:36 pm #72305I wouldn’t trust that flywheel.

I decided to order a replacement flywheel. Thanks I had never heard of them but they seem to have parts for a reasonable price.
