Hey all, been trying to back off the forward gear off the prop shaft on this ’53 S-A 10hp Shift. Any ideas? It wont budge. Dunked in CLR overnight and tons of PB blaster on it. Thanks in advance!

Must have some rust in there. It should slide off with ease. You might try bumping the whole prop shaft out, gear and all. To do that, the shaft has to slide out of a ball bearing and the reverse gear. Let’s hope those aren’t also rust-seized.

If there is any rust or corrosion holding the gear and bushing onto the shaft, It might need to be heated up a bit to help loosen it. Polishing the exposed end of the shaft with a strip of emery first will help to.

Here’s a ’52 10 horse gearcase for reference , model 3825, and I believe it should be similar to your model 3835.

Thanks! I’ll try some heat and polishing.
