OMC guys, does a 10hp 1956 five bolt gear case have the same gear ratio as a 1957 five bolt 18hp gear case? I am using a 10 horse gear case on a 18 and was wondering if I was making a mistake.

They are not the same. 15:26 for 10hp, 12:21 for 18hp

The ratio is pretty close, at 1.73 for the 15 and 1.75 for the 18. The question in my mind is will the smaller teeth of the 15 stand up to the extra hp?

Thanks guys! Probably not worth changing as little as I am gonna run it. I have a 9X11 propeller for it. Another one for sea testing. Wish I lived on a lake somewhere. The right propeller should even things out.

    tks again
