I am a new member, and I am writing for assistance in adding a generator to my Gale. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this and where I could source a flywheel, generator, mounting brackets and a belt.

I am also interested in finding replacement 35hp badges for this motor.

Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.

Don’t pay the stupid price for the belt. Go to http://www.polybelt.com 255L037 black rubber, $5.09. Item # B255L037BNG
Haven’t been there lately, I hope they are still in business

Why the flywheel? is the drive pulley missing on yours?

You know you also need a voltage regulator, right?

Thank you very much for this information on the belt. Yes, the drive pulley is missing and yes, I need a voltage regulator.

I have a generator bracket from a 40HP Johnson. Part # is 305679. Not sure what the Gale # is. If you can use it I would make you a good deal.

I have never seen a 1959 Gale Bucannes 35HP with electric start, other than the Sovreign model. The regular Buccaneer 35 was only pull starts as far as i am aware, but could be worng. That is why there would be no cogs on the flywheel for the generator drive. Any flywheel from a 1961 or earlier 25,35,40 should work. I likely have one if you need it. The generator bracket would need to have provisions for the gale style hood mount to be attached. I would have to look at some part numbers o be sure what motors could provide the correct bracket.

An Evinrude or Johnson 1957 35hp bracket will work, but what a waste of the rare special Johnson bracket. 1958 J/E Non-Super Sea Horse / Non-Lark will also work. 40hp brackets are different. Flywheels before 1957 won’t have the belt cog. And the ’57 cogs were famous for falling off. Pre-1957 motors were 6V (non-generator compatible).

Thank you very much for all of this advice.

                    My motor is electric start.

Any available parts that you have and that you believe will work with this motor, I am definitely interested in acquiring.
