Has anyone bought grips from this website, and if so,
were they happy?
http://johnsonseahorse.tripod.com/id4.htmlI’m looking for a new grip for the 50 Firestone 5hp,
and the first one shown (#997) with the 7/8" ID
looks fairly similar to the Scott outboard of the era.Thoughts?
Thanks, BuccaneerPrepare to be boarded!
May 25, 2015 at 4:50 pm #16843Looks like someone got themselves a rubber injection-molding machine..
My hunch is that most of these parts are re-molds of factory / NOS grips, so there’s going to be some loss of detail and dimension. Then again, maybe they managed to locate some old factory tooling for one or two types.. it’s definitely not unheard of.
I’d be curious to see the water pump rotors – they require some fair precision, and IIRC the factory parts have accurately ground surfaces on each sealing face.
May 25, 2015 at 7:36 pm #16850I tried to buy some large Johnson grips from them and was told they no longer had any because the old gentleman who was making them had died.Heard same thing from a couple others who had them listed but were out including Doug Penn.I assume they have some types still in stock.I don’t know about the impellars

I bought the 993 from them awhile ago. Top of the line quality, but I don’t think they have much anymore. Shame because they were really nice people and carried great product. They will be missed.May 25, 2015 at 11:39 pm #16874They sold an awesome product. I miss buying from them.
I believe, and I quote believe, the company was for sale at one time. Im not sure how much inventory they have left, nor if they are even selling anymore unfortunately.
