James, I like the beautiful color combination, with the predominant amount of white on the hood with the bronze band. It epitomizes the classic 50’s two tone look.
I also like the final shade of Holiday Bronze that Johnson used in 58 , before deciding to paint the motors all white in 59.
The new font that was used with the gold lettering on the hoods for the 58 was great. In addition it was really the last year of the all metal motors before OMC changed the hoods over to fiberglass.
The only negative drawback is the very uncomfortable grip for the throttle which is shaped like a toy rocket with fins that can get a little uncomfortable after an hour of so.
James please note, these are only my highly subjective views . There are plenty of other motors that look great. It just that I’m very partial to late 50’s OMC products.
Here is a picture of my 1958 10 HP that I restored. The 18 will look similar.
