This is my first time posting pictures either to big or I have to crop them

In order to post here and on many forums….pics need to be re-sized.  Or Compressed.  Or both.  Not necessarily cropped although cropping out needless areas can also help in reducing MB size.

What do you think the serial number is on the block?  The pic is really not clear enough to say for sure.

      Serial

      Serial-2

I just picked this motor up today. I thought it was a kg4 from the tank band serial number but it doesn’t match the block.

The serial number was hand stamped at one time. Probably by a racer as that serial number is for a KG4H, meaning a purpose built racer my Mercury. As a racer it should have had an AJ32A carb, but the pleasure motor KG4 had the AJ29A carb. BTW “H” meant Hydro.

I have tried to get it started with an aj32a and the aj29a with no luck. It has spark I cleaned the points but I was wondering how hard would it be to do the bottom crank seal. Also the throat of the intake looks to be hand ported or something unless it’s stock. Thanks to everyone for there time n patience.

The block number appears to be from a different KG4.  Early KG4’s came with AJ 29 carbs that typically had an X stamped after the AJ29 as I recall.  Bob Grubb
