      here’s another one I can’t quite identify. the only markings I see are W8120 on the crank case. see picture. any details on this motor? it seems to me awhile back (before the website crash) that wedgie or mumbles had recently picked up one of these.

        My guess is 1939 Thor built Sea-King. The motor that got Karl K going in his business.

            Thor motor made for Montgomery Ward. Not sure of the year. I have a similar motor with the Mercury lower unit and a model number on the top port side flange of the transom bracket that says model 8820. Tank is the same with cap in center though. Check out the W8120 number you have for references top Thor.

              Congratulations Scott on picking up a ’38 Wards Sea King model with the angled skeg! I believe it was the following year when they were made rounded. Karl always had to do things different, eh? And Skeg, your 8820 is a 1940 Merc built single. I can’t remember off hand but I think the one I picked up was a first year ’36.
