I have a single cylinder Water Witch with the only identifying marks (that I could find) of S-214. This is stamped on the right side of cylinder – looking from the rear. The numbers 214 are also stamped on the flywheel. It is a twin tank (torpedo tanks) model and in really nice original shape. Only one small ding in one tank. I have not even attempted to clean it up because I like the look of the old dinge.
Can someone help me with a model year? Is this a Kissel manufactured engine?
      Thanks,
      Drifter

I don’t find an s214 model. Could there be a stamping on the crankcase starboard side? My thoughts are a 1936_7 year motor. Is this a water or air cooled motor?

          Drifter,

If it has the twin tank set up it is a Kissel built motor. I have 2. One has the rope sheave held on by 3 screws and one is held on with the crankshaft nut. The 3 hole style is earlier, starting probably in 1938. Later style is around 1940.

          Hope this helps.

That would be the serial number.
There is nothing on the rope sheave?

Here are a couple of photos of the flywheel and the stamped numbers on the left side of the block looking from the front.
There is no model number, appears to be only a s/n. These are the only numbers I can find. Is there a spot I’m overlooking?
              Thanks for the help,

Ok I’m going to speculate here.
                The original rope sheave got
broken and that is a replacement.
                It came blank and someone
stamped it with the motors serial #
                that’s on the block.
Your tiller was first used in 1937.
1936 is different. With that low
a number I would speculate it to be
                a 1937 Model 571-10 and it should
have this exhaust. Everything is the
same in 1938. The model # and exhaust
                changes in 1939.
