I picked up a outboard recently at an estate and from my own research I don’t think it decals and name plate are correct. I can’t find a 1937 #4427 sportsman with a square tank. There are a few other things that lead me to believe it’s a1936 Fisherman rowboat. Yet I can’t seem to find one of those with a gas filler hole off to the side of the tank. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

          I don’t even find a Model 4427 Evinrude.
If there were one, it would be early 50’s or so,
          as my 4425 is a 1948.

The motor appears to be an opposed twin so it might be a ’37 4227 Fisherman. the 4207 Sportsman was a single.  Can you post a photo of any ID numbers on it to confirm?

Mumbles, thanks for the input. I agree it’s a 36 or 37 fisherman. But doesn’t the 4227 come up as a 37 sportsman?

Here’s an ad for the 37 Fisherman. It does not show the model number that I see.

Here’s a 1936 Evinrude ad, showing a fuzzy Fisherman, bottom middle.
Again, I don’t see a model number, but presume it has what you mean
                by the “square tank”.

A "Boat House Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Looks to be a 36 Evinrude Fisherman model 4148 but the gas cap is not in the center of the tank.

If the model and serial tag is missing you can remove the front cover and check the brass tag on the front of the port cylinder.

                      No, 4227 is a ’37 4.4 horse Fisherman.  A 1.6 horse ’37 Sportsman would be either a 4207 or a 4208 model.
