Hi All.
Your help with the above would be much appreciated.
Unfortunately I cant provide any model or serial numbers, but was wondering if this photob would give us an idea of what it might be.
The motor is for sale in the South Is and is the first Caille we have ever come across here in NZ.

Thanks for any help.

December 2, 2024 at 6:15 am #292358That looks Like a Caille model 16, I can’t be certain on the year.

December 2, 2024 at 8:50 pm #292374Thanks M Harrington very much for your reply.
I notice that the motor has what appears to be an old style transfer on the tank, which makes me think that it is older that the 16 and 30 models you mentioned. Also, the ends of the muffler are quite different to the 16 and 30 models
Interesting to note the strange position of the tank…….sitting up high.
Thanks once again

December 3, 2024 at 6:03 am #292376I don’t think the gas tank is attached to the motor, I haven’t worked on or owned one, but the tank on all models (as far as I know) is above the exhaust and Infront of the flywheel, unless the exhaust goes out the lower. If you zoom in to me above the exhaust, you can see 2 pieces of metal coming off the heads and I think that is where the tank should mount.
I don’t know what the production run is, but I was looking in “The Old Outboard Book” by Peter Hunn because I have had good luck in the past finding the production runs that way. The only thing I could find was it showed the model 30 racer only for 1928. That seems correct because the circle shaped fins on the exhaust were only on the 1928 model (I think, please correct me if I am wrong).
December 3, 2024 at 8:44 am #292377I think you will find that this motor is most likely a model 20. Without being able to see the front of of the powerhead, I can’t verify that the crankcase vents exist. Model 30’s would have that feature.
What makes me suggest that this is a model 20 is that a Model 30 would NOT have the variable pitch prop as the one in the photo does.
FWIW the model 20 was sold with cylinders that had the dual spark pug locations as well as the more conventional cylinder with one plug location only. I’ve got both in my collection.
Hope this helps.
Best,
