Hi guys I’m new here and have aquired my first vintage outboard but it’s a bit of a odd duck I was hoping you guys could help me figure out what I have. It says it’s a hiawatha model number 25-7971. Which is supposed to be a 5hp but it has a Cinton 2hp motor on it. It gets worse. It has a jet on it. Looks to me to be an aftermarket bolt on. So did Clinton Motor Co. Ever sell motors to hiawatha? I know Clinton came out with a line of outboards did they possibly buy lower units from hiawatha? Or was some good ole boy just having fun? I don’t know how to post pics on this site. With your help maybe I can get one on. Thank you guys
November 16, 2015 at 8:15 pm #27207The model number says it’s a ’47 according to my book, long before Clinton got into the act. Maybe what you have is one of those oddball little jets with a Hiawatha transom bracket ? In order to get pictures here, you need to use some online pictre service like Photobucket or similar. At least that’s the rumor, I’m not too adept at it myself.
November 16, 2015 at 9:10 pm #27210Personally, I prefer http://www.postimage.org for its simplicity. Once you have uploaded your picture to it, you will see "show codes". Click on that, and you will see a whole list of choices. Click on "hotlink for forums (1)". That will put the link in your computer’s memory. Then while you are typing a message on the forum as I am doing now, place your cursor where you want the picture, and hold down the Ctrl key and tap the "V" key. Zap! the link will appear in the space and show up as a picture when you save the message.

Do you suppose someone blew up the original 5hp and replaced it with an ole 2hp the had laying around? Sounds logical but where did the jet come from?
November 17, 2015 at 2:25 am #27223I’d rather think it is a cobbled up affair from the junk pile. Ain’t no way in heck a Clinton engine is going to bolt up to a Hiawatha midsection without some sort of a custom made adapter. It probably is one of the several brands of Eska-derived jet drive motors, with a Hiawatha model number plate or brackets.
