As is Where is… unless you are willing to stand behind your evaluation do not make them. Every old outboard motor may contain unpleasant and expensive surprises. Best to let the buyer do his own evaluation OR pay an expert to do it for him. A lot of the time there will be minor issues and some of the time the will be major issues. Beware of a buyer who want a guaranty and a bargain basement price…. you lose both ways. So it seems to me.

Hello Louis!   Good to hear your bits of wisdom again!   This fella is looking for a 25 for his PenYan.  Do you have one of those 25 Wizards for him?  That would make that little boat get up on the keel!   Don’t they call those Wizards dirty thirties in some circles?  Sounds like fun to me!

Sorry, after early encounters with big outboards, I have tried to avoid them. OMC Big Twins were made in respectable numbers. Some will be good to go and some will be good for scrap and you will not always be able to tell which is which. So my experiences have taught me anyway.

I owned a 1953/4 Superfastwin 15hp. It was one of my favorite motors, very depenable, smoooth running & very quality bilt. Go over your motor, compression, completeness, reseal gearcase & tune up. If compression is good, mix oil 5 gallons of fuel to a quart of premix oil. Always had great memories with my Fastwin. Bought mine from a bait shop 35 years ago for 250, needed a tune up & gearcase reseal, Wiah I still had it.
