Carb is cleaned and reinstalled . So is fuel tank . Gunna mix up some fresh fuel . From what I have read it 16/1 mixture . Stop me if I’m wrong ..
Plugs don’t look too bad . Cleaned them and reinstalled….Not sure how to check water pump system . I guess I will take one of the lines loose and squirt the hose in it and try and flush out anything that may clog it up . Idk ….I don’t have a flywheel puller atm . I’ll get one though .
In the meantime I’m gunna stick it in the tub and see if we have any life ..
        Wish me luck !

          No sign of life…
Seems I’m not getting spark . I have one of those test lights you hook up in line with the end of the plug and the wire …
This thing is kind of a beast to pull the cord . I notice there is hole in the top of the flywheel… You can get to the points through it I think ..
          .020 gap ???

I find high octane toilet bowl cleaner is very good for cleaning out old gas tanks. The one with about 23% acid, use rubber gloves and swish it around to get to all areas. Don’t leave it in too long, you’ll see when its removed all the rust and varnish. Rinse with lots of water, it will look like new. Don

Thanks Don .. I’ll remember that .. I had a nice bristle brush that I could bend how I wanted with a long handle . The solvent with the brush worked really well getting the last little spots cleaned up .
Ok so when checking the gap on the points . Should that be done while it’s at its widest point . I can rotate the flywheel and get the gauge at it very easily . I’m gunna pick up a new set of plugs .
What should the gap on those be set at . But I need to figure out why no spark . At the widest point on the point gap thee is just a fuzz of slop on the gauge at .020 . Should I try and tighten the gap ?
Any help here would be greatly appreciated …

                We have a pulse gentleman. !!! 😋
After a crap load of reading and searching here I only found reference to the point setting at .012 , .015 , and .020 . So I set it at .015 . I picked up a set of the NKG -AB6 plugs . All I found was the gap should be .030 . They came preset at .025 so I just left it .. what should be the proper gap ?
I followed the starting instructions and read to really prime it good . A pull or two and it fired the backfired . I could get it to run for a few seconds but it would backfire and shut off ..
I think I should install the tiller handle for now till I get it running better and get used to it .
What should I be doing to stop the backfire and keep it running ?
Even though it only ran a few seconds I am pretty stoked about it !

If its actually backfiring the timing lever may be too far advanced.

                    It’s a big POW!! And I saw a small flame in the carb … I think it’s a backfire I guess …

Set points to 0.020″, Spark plugs should be fine at 0.025-0.030″ for now. As Wayne mentioned, timing is probably to far advanced. Bring the spark lever back some and try again.

You had a question earlier about the water pump/cooling. These have metal impellers that don’t usually give trouble. You can run for a short time out of water with no issues(15 seconds or so)
