Under all this extra paint there are a couple original alumacraft decals. Is there a safe way to remove the paint and preserve the decals? I’d like to take some good pictures so a decal maker can copy them.

I would practise on an area without the decal. Start with a mild paint remover.

Or Strip them and buy a decal pre made. It is likely one of these two?

it’s neither of those two. I will look in my pics to see if I have one similar.

Lemme do some searching. I know I’ve covered this briefly before, I’ll see if I can find it again.

I think it will be like this one.

Here’s another of mine after some gentle cleaner wax.

I wonder if tape might lift off the paint and leave the decal. Maybe duct tape or one of the various painters or masking tapes. I know regular masking tape (the tan stuff) usually wants to lift off the paint underneath rather than peeling cleanly away — might be what would work for you.

I have found that using very fine wet and dry sandpaper is effective.
Use the finest paper wet, a with a bit of detergent and sponge……do a small area at a time and finish of with cutter/polish…..
just take it quietly and check constantly.

What about a hair dryer to soften the paint then push off with your fingernail or wood stick?
