Here’s the photos Rich50 sent me of his rope start motor. Yup, it says KS-15 and the serial number is 48XXXX. I’m stumped. Thoughts anyone?

The Johnson motors weren’t painted green until after the war so the silver color points towards an earlier model. It’s possible this motor had a shady past and the 3 was changed to an 8. If this was done, I’d say they did a good job doing it.

What the …. ? How did Daryls photo get in there? Dang computers.

            I’ll try it again.

Something’s not working right but if you click on the small attachment Johnson 1, the correct photo should appear.

Probably the explanation is similar to
the pictures you posted. There is an
error somewhere and much like your
picture well likely never know what
              happened.

It looks like a very nice original un touched motor, I think the simple answer would be war time production but not put into military use. I wouldn’t mind adding it to my collection.

Peterborough motor? I don’t know the S/N ranges for Canadian built motors, but I do know based on my OKs and other 30s/40s motors they”d throw a bunch of parts in a bucket and build what they could out of it.
