Hi all, I recently acquired an old 3.6hp Wizard Outboard. I am new to the antique outboard world so any further information would be greatly appreciated. There are a few stamped numbers on the identification plate which I have a picture of.

Your motor resembles this 1964 – McCulloch – Wizard – 3.5 hp. – Model MLM-6904B, I have in my picture files. As the info is missing from your ID tag, I would suspect your motor is one of the 3.6 hp. motors listed here on this chart from Discount Marine. You could likely determine the exact year by the colors of your motor if you can find someone that has one. That may be difficult.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Are you simply trying to identify it, or would you like tips on get it running as well?

The reason you’re hearing that this outboard is both a Scott-Atwater and a McCulloch is because Scott-Atwater designed the motor (which was then sold with different names for different companies – private branding) but I’ve read that in 1956, McCulloch arranged to buy the company, and they did.  Also, Wizards were sold through Western Auto stores (as shown in the bottom right corner of Tom’s neat photo).
