I’m restoring a 1956 Oliver 15 hp. It uses the same impeller as the Mercury KG7 and Chris Craft Commander. I see the impeller is NLA from the dealer. Are there any affordable options out there? Here is the motor in question. You can follow my progress in the current projects forum.

March 22, 2021 at 12:45 am #234574Not sure about the 15hps but for the 5.5hps, Dan soderstrom told me that someone will recast a new impeller around your old core. I can’t remember who but I know he is a club member.
Those 15hps look great! I have a couple of the Oliver Wizards but haven’t done much with them yet.

March 22, 2021 at 9:51 am #234586I have a 1959 16 hp Oliver. Not sure why they decided “brown”
was the way to go in 59. Also not sure how many similarites it has to it’s
15 hp predecessor, but I see at least one “green” part grafted
onto my brown Oliver.
It pulls over real stiff, so not even sure of it’s condition yet.
It’s been on the back burner for a while now, so perhaps your
adventure will spur me on.
Do you plan on replacing your broken Scintilla coils with the
Military coils floating around?Prepare to be boarded!
March 22, 2021 at 10:22 am #234589Buccaneer, I’ll be using the 2A016 military coils. They have a single output. I’ll include photos and a description in my project thread when I get to that point. From what I can see your motor is identical to the 1956 15 hp aside from the cosmetics.

March 24, 2021 at 4:27 pm #234858So after some experimenting with impellers I have found what I think is an affordable solution that should be available for awhile. The impeller fits perfectly with the exception of the ID. The Oliver driveshaft is only 9/16”, which makes it the same as the KE7 not the KG7 as I originally reported. The hub material is hard plastic and is easy to file or machine to the correct diameter. I will likely switch the impeller key to an OMC style instead of the original pin style.
Honda BF8D part #19210-ZW9-013
For those of you interested in the details of this saga, I first attempted to find another useable impeller from the parts bin. I found that the Martin 100 impeller fits the driveshaft and housing perfectly, but would need some modification to the driveshaft as the key is different. This was never really a viable future solution since I can’t go to the Martin dealer down the street whenever I need another. The same can be said for the Mercury KE4/KE7/Mk7 impeller. The Scott-Atwater 7.5-10 hp impeller fit except for the ID. Knowing that the Honda impeller is a suitable replacement for the SA I chose to pursue it. It is not a perfect solution, but at $32 CAD it is more affordable than the specialty store options that run $50-70 USD plus shipping.
