Oh! Well I just tried, not very hard though and I couldn’t get them to turn but honestly I didn’t really see rust and I think I could fairly easily with some wd 40 or pb blaster. However upon closer inspection one of the turn handles is missing.

June 9, 2017 at 3:06 pm #59344Most people will hesitate to speculate about value because there are too many variables. If you want to maximize the sale price will you will need to learn the answers to the questions people here are asking. Stuck, compression, controls compatible with motor, etc? One could speculate $50 with what you know, $100 not stuck and with a decent compression check, $200 running in a barrel. More actually performing on a boat. But since you are not mechanically inclined, you say, the cost of replacing the coils, cleaning the carb, changing the water pump impeller … to get it running would likely be far more than the increase in what you could get out of it.
You might look at what motors are selling for on the local Craigslist. Maybe put it up for $100 and lower the price every couple of weeks until it sells.
Is there a high school or community college marine mechanics program that would want it as a donation?
June 9, 2017 at 3:12 pm #59345Even though I live in Florida and the motor has been stored in my garage for twenty years it did come from a man who lived in Illinois. It hasn’t ever been ran in my possession. I’d be willing to let it go as is for $50 if someone wanted to come get it. I don’t know what I’m doing as far as working on it and it is too heavy and cumbersome for me and my mother to move around.
June 9, 2017 at 8:07 pm #59362Where in SW Florida?
June 10, 2017 at 2:13 am #59375I’m in North Port about a half hour south of Sarasota.
June 10, 2017 at 6:37 am #59379Danged temptation!! I’d be down to pick it up but my wife and doctor would kill me. I just completed six weeks of physical therapy on my back and leg. They would point out to me that I have no business horsing around on that thing either.
June 10, 2017 at 11:53 am #59386Well… I had knee surgery a year ago so I certainly understand! I have it listed on Craigslist for $100 obo but haven’t had much interest yet. Maybe you could commission someone to help you move it and you could work on it once you’ve recovered? All up to you of course not trying to be pushy! Your health is key I know my knee will never be the same.
June 10, 2017 at 3:30 pm #59400Hey, I had both knees replaced at the same time, 11 years ago. Best thing I ever did. I don’t even pay any attention to them now. I was looking at a wheelchair if I didn’t do it. Hang in there, it will get better.
June 10, 2017 at 6:46 pm #59417If there were some way to get it to Tampa, I believe we could get it to next Saturdays meet at Trimble Park, south of Mt. Dora. . . 😀
