I have just picked up a 1937 1.7hp Johnson Model 110, which is very dirty, but fortunately with
very little sign of corrosion……… I have never seen one before down here in NZ and being unable to find anything
in the Red Book, except a picture and You Tube clips, so I’m getting the impression that its fairly rare.
I also checked the Marine Engines website, (which gave the impression that there was information,) but no luck
and as I’m unable to find anything, such as a parts list and operating instructions etc, I was wondering if someone could help me out.
As always, any help would be much appreciated!

Your model 110 has basically the same powerhead as the J-25 & the J-65.
Everything else that bolts to the block, including the tiller assembly, is
different on the model 100 & model 110. The main difference, in function,
is how it pumps water. The J motors have a piston pump while your motor
has another method. Impeller? I’ve never had a 100 or 110.

It would appear that there is a part of the carb missing……..looks like a pipe with a bend in it (horn shaped) that appears to be for air intake on looking at similar carbs.
Unfortunately the photos don’t show it.
I noticed a square piece of metal with a 1/4 inch hole bored in it, covering the area, which seems wrong, as the air intake would be almost nil.
The compression is 65psi and has plenty of bounce when turning the flywheel.
Fortunately the gears are in excellent condition with fresh grease in the gearbox.
The points came up well with some wet and dry sandpaper and a good spark was produced, so I think she will be a good runner.
Attached are photos of the motor.https://photos.app.goo.gl/gUDdyUo85Vr7g7sm6
Thanks once again………a parts, list if available would be great.

The warm air tube is often missing but isn’t necessary.
This one is the on my J-65.
I think you’ll find it to be a great running motor.
My J-65 is.

June 25, 2023 at 9:26 am #277352I made an air snorkel for one motor out of a 3/4″
copper street ell, and a short piece of 3/4″ hard copper tubing.Prepare to be boarded!
June 26, 2023 at 2:46 am #277418Thanks Tubs and Buc again for your replies and that helpful photo Tubs……….that motor of yours looks fabulous!
As the motor looks like it will turn out to be a good runner I would like to have it as complete as possible.
Your idea Buc to use a copper plumbing elbow certainly has merit……. will follow it up.
Have just started the tidy up by removing and sandblasting the rusty steel tiller bracket………looking good so far.
Thanks again
