Installing points cam..’76 Johnson 15 hp. I am under the impression it should just slide on???? That ain’t happening. I even removed the flywheel key, still wont go…I am VERY confident that if I try to force this down it WILL split…This should have like .002 clearance or something…Right???? Thoughts?

Oh and one more thing…..The old one was a mother. ******** to get off…. I did get it off without breaking but when I used a socket to tap it down and back on it split… It IS the correct number… Heat it up and then install?

      Thanks

      Richard

Those cams are made from cindered metal so I don’t think you would want to heat them. Not sure what is causing the installation problem. I don’t think they would have a press fit at all. The way they are made the metal is quite fragile to impact. That is the way I understand it. The metal is long wearing.
