Tech Info section of Jason Baxter’s Wizard site has some information about prewar Sea Kings (not much) but perhaps helpful. Gives the basics for tuneup, fuel mix, displacement B/S fuel capacity and endurance.
Sea King Super Twin 8.5 hp model 8811 offered 1936-41
Several other twins listed but this sounds most likely
Montgomery Ward Sea King brand outboards were sourced from both OMC and Kiekhaefer in late 30s early 40s prewar.. .

would say late 20’s early 30s and agree appears to look a lot like the opposed twin Johnson motors.

            turned off?

There isn’t any doubt as to what it is, she’s an OMC-built motor, and the ones who are pointing at it being a lathe 30’s Sea King version of the 8.5 HP Evinrude Fleetwin are shoving you in the right direction. Not a 20’s model, so take that out of the equation altogether. Model number will tell you exactly what year and all, but it is an Evinrude under that MW label. Go buy the thing if you haven’t already.

It’s the same motor as in this here Craigslist ad,except that the tank on this one looks a bit out of place (looks Johnson-y) and it’s missing the front grab handle.

                Hope this helps.

                best,

This picture is of Richard Lpaquette 1936 8.5 HP Viking model 496.
                  You can see the similarities.
Here is a link to his web sight.

And again, Tubs comes with the evidence, glad to see that you take the stand and speak for Richard
I began to doubt what I wrote earlier !
thanks a lot, thumbs up for you 😎

Interestingly….I have looked at the various brochures that Garry has in the dropbox….and this motor does not appear in the various Evinrude or Elto brochures of those years. I see no mention of Fleetwin. What gives?

Does anyone have a parts manual or service manual or owners manual for one of these 8.5 HP twins?

Thanks to you all for the great information 🙂
