I vaguely remember seeing an omc spec chart much like this one for merc https://www.vintageoutboard.com/pages/merc-spec-chart onlline somewhere. Same general time period I spose. 40s and 50s if it exists.
June 6, 2019 at 10:42 pm #176759At the time of that publishing (1953 ) Evinrude and Johnson were considered in competition and listed separately. I added the information I had to include the V-4 outboards. I still have not been able to find the capacitance of the Sportfour capacitor. At that time the Sportfour was long gone as it was more expensive to produce than the Speeditwin and put out less power. Table 1 was Johnson – 2 was Mercury – 3 was Marten & Oliver – 4 was Evinrude – 5 was a cross reference. . . .

June 6, 2019 at 10:55 pm #176762Did not know that Johnson and Evinrude were still in competition in the early 50s. Learn something new every day. And I think table 1 is what I’m looking for. I have a 25hp seahorse from 1953 that I’m sending to the machinist and I wanted to have a sheet with the bore and stroke specs for him to go off of. Thanks for the reply Garry!
June 6, 2019 at 11:18 pm #176766The 1951 25 horse broke the ice. The four cylinder prototype Evinrude built could not compete with Johnsons twin which turned out to be just as smooth at an idle. This resulted in Johnson using Evinrude’s gear case and Evinrude using Johnson’s powerhead/exhaust housing. The 75 HP V-4 had a Johnson designed gear case which proved to be much faster on a light boat.

February 18, 2022 at 9:48 am #254817I don’t think Gary has been on the boards for a long time now.
Here’s the tables in question…..

February 18, 2022 at 10:49 am #254827Yo, Buccaneer, I deleted your Evinrude caps table as it showed the common 580321 capacitor listed as 0.3 or 0.4 uF while in reality it is closer to 0.2 uF. This was brought to Garry’s attention several years ago so here is the revised version.
If anyone else has the old Evinrude caps table in their files, you should delete it and replace it with this slightly revised version to avoid any confusion.
February 19, 2022 at 1:55 am #254929Does anyone know the condensor Value for a Evinrude Sportwin N.
Thanks for any help.
February 19, 2022 at 9:27 am #254936Mumbles, just to clarify, Does the Speeditwin 37-50 need
the .3 cap, hence, the 580321 cap should not have been
listed for that motor?Thanks.
Prepare to be boarded!
