I thought the Javelin name was only used by Johnson in 1956-57, but I ran across this photo of a V4  “Javelin”.  I’m just curious as to what years and HPs the name was used on since 1957?…and what is the word or words in the darker part to the right of Javelin?

I believe the Johnson Javelin name was used on some 85 and 100hp motors from around 1972 or 73 up to 1980.  The one in your picture looks like a late 70’s or 1980 model.   The wording in the darker part of the cowl is the word script indicating the motor horsepower, i.e. a 100hp motor would have “One Hundred” written in the dark area.

Edit – I think that style of engine cowling in your picture was only used on the 100hp Javelins.
