Does anyone know about the Jetmaster 8.5hp motors made by California Jet Marine & Air Research from back in the 50’s? I found an engine very very similar to it but there’s aren’t any markings that have been found (private seller doesn’t have any up close pics).

The biggest difference I see between the 2 models is the front part of the upper and lower shroud are slightly different along with the way the throttle is positioned. The shape of the cooling fins on the cylinder and that one has an exhaust shield and the other doesn’t (the holes look to be there though)

Other than that they’re 90% I identical right down to how the shrouds are bolted together on the sides.

On the one I’ve found it looks like there is a faint marking of where a sticker used to be on the sides that says "8.8". On the front face it can barely be seen but it looks like it said jetmaster at one point.

Also does aanyone know where I can get more information on these at, all my searches are coming back empty.

According to page 178 of Peter Hunn’s "the Old Outboard Book" the Jetmaster power head was a West Bend Super Bee. It was also used in Go Carts. . . 🙂

Did you find out any info on this motor. Because I found one as well. Not sure how rare it is or anything. Any info would be great.

            Hi Guys

I know that this is an older string, but here’s a potential update.

recently acquired a jet outboard with no particular way to identify it, but it does have A West Bend Power Bee engine as its power head. In this case the engine is a fairly rare 713 model, a 5 port transition model tween the older 580s and the newer 800 series. The 700 puts out 7hp. Ok

This motor looks very similar to a Jetmaster , but all the Jetmaster  ads feature Tecumseh engines.

I will post a picture soon, but for now I’m just trying to revive this topic to see if we can unearth any more info

            Dave
