Question: Not to get off topic but how do you know when an air cooled motor like that is overheating? Does it just smell too hot or does it actually seize up? I have a Lawnboy snow blower with a similar Tecumseh engine and fixed jet carb. The carb is clean, clean, clean, fuel flow from the tank is good, oil mix is a bit stronger than the 32:1 recommended and yet it backfires like crazy when not under load and absolutely DOES smell too hot. I am currently making some block-off plates to pressure test the crank case and seals. It has an automatic, reed-type compression release, which seems to be intact.
Long live American manufacturing!
