New member just joined the club….Last summer we (wife and i) brought a few motors from a gentleman, one of the happened to be a johnson 1.5hp. It is a complete motor. Can’t remember the year, anyways. I got it running, but it won’t stay running. I’m thinking it has something to do with the carb. Is there a manual for this motor somewhere? And also, sitting as is what is the value of it? Thank you

Unfortunately those little motors often suffer from low compression because they are run hard due to their small size trying to push a couple large guys and their fishing gear in a heavy boat . They will not idle down, or stay running if that is the case. As for value, it depends on condition, and where you are located in the country .

Whatever you do, don’t use a three jaw puller which grabs the flywheel on the outer rim or it might get damaged. You must use a puller which utilizes the threaded holes under the rope sheave, next to the flywheel nut. If the holes are non-existant or not threaded, then a knocker would be the tool of choice.

March 8, 2023 at 9:04 am #273561There are YouTube videos covering just about any service work you have to do, even if it isn’t specific to your 1969 1.5 HP, the techniques and procedures will be similar. Crosbyman usually has some ready to list that are helpful. I gathered some other online links for you, the first one being a parts list breakdown for your motor from the MarineEngine website. It should at least help to show you how things come apart. The other links are probably more than you need but they’re all pretty informative and helpful in one way or another. Look through and see what you need.
