I am cleaning the carburetor on my Johnson A25. I removed the plate that holds the throttle cylinder(air control valve) to the body of the carburetor and I did not find a gasket under this plate, which is held in place by 2 screws. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a gasket between the plate and the carburetor body? The lever that controls the position of the throttle has 2 set screws, which hold it to the throttle cylinder shaft, and the lever is adjustable along the throttle cylinder shaft. Any suggestions on where this lever is supposed to be positioned along the throttle cylinder(air control valve) shaft? Thanks Jonathan

Many of the fasteners, like the screws for the rope pulley, are of
a thread dia. and pitch that is no longer available so be careful
with them as replacements cam be hard to come by.

September 15, 2023 at 5:07 pm #280625A25 lower unit question.
The lower unit gear case cover has 3 holes in the prop shaft bushing housing to provide lubrication to the prop shaft. I assume these holes should be oriented upwards to allow the lubricant to flow into the prop shaft bushing? Thanks Jonathan
September 15, 2023 at 10:14 pm #280628Yes, the spring was there as you described. Now I need to get the lower unit back together, not sure the orientation of the prop shaft bearing housing, oil holes facing up or down? Seems like someone has been in the lower unit several times before me, and may have installed the prop shaft bearing housing both ways(holes up and holes facing down) at one time or another. I want to put it back correctly this time. It seems like the pinion gear teeth on the end of the drive shaft contact the prop shaft bearing housing if installed with the oil holes facing down, as there is a groove worn in the housing corresponding to past gear tooth interferance. I do not think this is the correct orientation, as I think the holes should be facing up. Can you confirm this? Jonathan

It has to be installed with the
flat side up to clear the drive
shaft gear.

You want to use either Corn Head Grease,
or Lubriplate 105. As water enters the gear
case it doesn’t mix with the grease. In the
example below, even though there is only
5% or less grease remaining in the gear case,
what does remain has been attracted to the
gears. I believe that would be the same for
the shafts and bushings.
