Did Johnson paint any of the fuel tanks in 1929? I kinda thought they were all polished?
I suppose someone could have painted it. Kinda looks original to me. It’s off a K45.
      Thanks

The green paint didn’t come until after WWII. Before that, all were silver.

Zink Chromate was used as an aluminum primer for many years before the EPA discovered it was hazardous to laboratory rats. It made everything Green. My cat is very good about keeping lab rats out of my shop, although she specializes in mice. . . 😀

I have heard the story that at the end of the war (WWII) dealers would repaint old stock silver Johnson motors the new green color. True? I don’t know, sounds possible.

Yes, the factory encouraged it. They thought it created good relations with the customers to make the motors look like new again. . . 🙂

With all due respect to our serviceman to the men and women who served during WW II ,some may have been tired of the color green when the war ended.
Maybe they painted the leftover pre- war motors green to make them feel at home,or in honor of our veterans?

I have an AB 25 that was factory painted green after the war or so I’m told 😉

It looks to me like the tank has several repairs that also show green paint. But, I have no real idea, it might not be repairs that I am looking at.
