Johnson HD-15 gear case cover

As I’m going through my cute little Johnson HD-15,
I noticed another little / big problem.
The gear case cover has a chunk missing,
or else "water cooled gears" were the "thing"
for 1940? 😮
At this point, I’m not sure if it’s aluminum, or
some kind of pot metal.
If aluminum, do you think it’s "fixable"?
Anyone have a parts manual for the HD-15,
or part number for said part in question?

Also, the HD-25 manual section shows a felt
washer and oil slinger at the top of the crankshaft.
I didn’t find any such thing on this HD-15,
and I’m not sure if there was one on the one
HD-25 I have apart for that matter!
Is there suppose to be a slinger on the HD-15?
