Johnson KD 15 questions

Hello to all;

I’m looking for my next project motor, and am thinking about this KD-15.

What can y’all tell me about these? Any known irritants or issues?

I’ve done motors from the late 50’s on, but nothing from the 40’s.
This will be a new challenge for me, but I don’t want to get in over my head, or take a 6 hour trip for disappointment.

They are basically the same as the earlier alternate firing KA motors but use a Ready Pull rewind starter instead of an open sheave to get them going. The cranks have a large rotary valve with two sealing rings on them which is probably why they use an 8:1 fuel mix.
