Johnson LT-37 Lower end

I am trying to remove the lower end unit from the brass tube on my Johnson LT37.  I have the clamp bolt off but it will not budge.  I’ve soaked it in ATF/Acetone and also other penetrating oil but still no movement.  I don’t want to hammer it for fear of breaking the aluminum housing.  I’ve also used a plastic “wedge” to attempt to open the clamp held by the bolt just a little but that doesn’t help either.  Haven’t tried heat yet.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you removed the exhaust cover and disconnected the water tube?

Yes, the exhaust cover and water pump module has been removed.

Have you tried twisting it a bit from side to side to see if it will break free? Tubs

Thanks for the reply. I have tried a little but after it soaks for a day or so I’ll give it another try. Just working my way up. Thanks for your suggestion. New at this so taking my time.

A little heat will help.  Warm up the aluminum casting, then grab the brass tube with a cold wet rag, try twisting back & forth. Ok to heat with a propane torch if you GO EASY and don’t get too hot. If concerned, use an electric heat gun.

Awesome, great advice. I have just the heat gun to use. If that doesn’t work, got fire. Sure not in a hurry. Winter project.
