Thanks, Stanley, those photos help me see the differences in the cavitation plate/support strut. The water pump difference is the horizontal band? What do you make of the serial number on the DN? Seems to suggest it’s a 1924, doesn’t it?

I have a AC-25 myself with the standard transom bracket and a reproduction canoe bracket.
Unfortunately regardless of the model in most cases if used in salt water
Regularly the cylinders were not long for the world.
Nice find, does the ser# on the rope plate match the crankcase number?

Congrats on such a nice find!

        Respectfully,

        Yes, Brook, matching serial number.

Where’d you find a reproduction canoe bracket?

Honestly I don’t remember as I have had it for years.
Maybe Art Dekalb but I can’t say for sure.
Always nice to see a odd ball like your DN show up
        In such nice condition.

        Respectfully,
        Brook

I apologize for all the redundant photos, but I found it difficult to post pictures from my antique iPhone.Yes,the band is the Most noticeable pump difference. The serial number is late 1924.1924 was a transition year with some unique features.Art DeKalb cast those brackets and could still have some.

I bought a reproduction wood / leather grip from a guy at
Tomahawk years ago so they were available at one time.
I’m no authority on the early Johnson but except for it being
brand new “I” couldn’t tell the difference form an original.
            Excellent reproduction IMO.

What model is that, Tubs? I’m curious about what looks like a kill switch on the spark advance.

If you have the wooden handle it’s not that bad. I Recovered one for my 1924 BN, I cut it out of one of my sister’s old pocketbooks.
Sewed it together inside out rolled it onto the wooden handle and dipped it into hot water for a nice shrink fit and added the ring on the back side.
I had the wooden handle so it made it a lot easier.

Get yourself a Zebra hide and you could make some custom grips
                      for us for Christmas presents!

                      Prepare to be boarded!

                        LOL!!!
                        Buc, that’s a great idea!
Unfortunately due to the Covid travel restrictions and Christmas closing in fast
I am not sure I can pull off a trip to Tanzania or South Africa seeing these are
The only countries hides can be sourced legally.

Ahh,,,,,, it was a great idea though.
