      Never noticed this until I started re-assembling this engine.You can see from the gasket,which was made to fit the cylinder,there is a missing opening in the crankcase.I am not sure that the cylinders or pistons are original.They measure larger than listed specs and the pistons lack the ring on the skirt.The crankcase numbers match those on the rope plate.I don’t know if this engine ever ran after the parts swap (if there was one)Is this normal for this model?Think it will run like this?

        It should work. You can even increase crankcase compression by plugging the blocked passage down to the first opening in the cylinder wall. The bypass passage only needs to go around the piston rings on those models. . . 😀
