I acquired a PO-15 and need to look things over good before I try to start it.
I am wondering mostly on the wiring. Anyone have a diagram, hand drawn, or Manufacturer drawn? I am really intrigued by the handle and the kill switch on it. I can’t tell it if screws out, or not. Or if I even need to take it out and re-do the wires. Anyone know how to check those wire with a DVM?
I know my coil is dead, but have another on the way. My Crank is a bit messed up where the Flywheel keys go, not sure what I will do about that. The Flywheel is messed up bad enough I need to replace it as well, the groove is a total mess…..ughhh
The love for these old beasts goes on and on…..LOL
Anyways, and and all help would be Greatly Appreciated!!! 😀
March 26, 2016 at 2:39 pm #33941Darn…I was hoping someone here had something.
The internet is fairly void of info about this one.
March 26, 2016 at 3:20 pm #33944I don’t have a schematic but here’s a link to a thread explaining the PO wiring.

I just picked up a PO myself and can’t wait to try it out! First though, I have to make a new end cap for the tiller handle. The original one is Bakelite or something and is chipped. The new one will be made out of Acetal (Delrin) plastic. In the meantime, I threaded the old one to accept a cheap kill switch until the good one arrives in the mail. The switch is normally off and momentarily on. Since the twist grip was stiff, two new bushings solved that problem.
The original two prong plug connector will get trashed in favor of something more modern with two wires instead of three. The original plug would probably look better on a 30’s or 40’s table lamp anyway. 😀
Here’s a little trouble shooting checklist for the PO ignition system.
Hey Viking66, if you are a paid up club member in good standing, why not PM the Admin with your info so you can have your name highlighted in red and gain access to the ‘Members Only’ section on these boards. You’ll see what I did to replace the carb float!

March 26, 2016 at 6:01 pm #33949Thank you so much, that is a huge help. I like the wiring pic.
I was wondering how the Kill switch was in the handle and you helped with that.
I am a Member paid up and in good standing. I will message the Admin about the red letters.
Thanks again!!!
March 27, 2016 at 6:01 pm #33986Any tips on getting the Bakelite end caps out without totally wrecking them? Mine probably have never been out and my fingers had no magic touch. I though of using channel locks, but then thought better…LOL
March 27, 2016 at 6:08 pm #33988I am probably not going to re-do this motor, just want to make a runner out of it an want to ensure it stops when I ask it to.
March 28, 2016 at 9:32 pm #34028You might try a nylon strap wrench, if it will go small enough, it may just do the trick.
March 29, 2016 at 5:15 pm #34061I will give that a try.
March 30, 2016 at 10:20 am #34092Still no luck in getting the switch out of the handle….ughhhh
I was doing some testing on the wires and thought that when I do a continuity test between 2 of the wires 3 and hit the button I should show continuity. I am not getting any continuity. I am no electrical genius so if this is wrong please tell me.
As I stated before I just want to be able to stop this thing when I finally get it up and running.
March 30, 2016 at 1:27 pm #34103I’ll take a look at my old one later today to see how it was installed. It’s still sitting on the bench somewhere!
