I was always leery about removing the flywheel
by backing off the nut against the rope sheave
on that style set-up…. I could see the sheave
breaking easily!
I only check my messages about 1 time per day and I did get yours and I responded. I read some of the thread on the spark plugs. I quit using Champions…I had issues with them in other motors. I now use the NGK AB-7 with great success. The Champion D-9 and the 509 are the same and work great in PO’s. It is suggested to close the gap on Evinrudes of that era, so I run the Evinrudes at .020 and the PO at .025.
If you go to this site you can find alternative plugs for everything listed in its data base. After the list appears, click on one of the plugs listed to find alternatives for it or just click at the top left to start over.
