Johnson PO15 kill switch wire location

Hello.  I got my PO15 running (for 20 seconds on the stand) and couldn’t shut it off without grounding spark plug out with a screwdriver.  I didn’t run over 20 seconds because of no cooling. I removed and cleaned the switch contacts and got continuity at the 2 prong connector.  Got continuity to points while holding in switch. But it still won’t kill spark.  Then I discovered (through a friend) that a ground wire is missing from the mag plate to the 2 prong plug.  Question is where does “missing “ wire connect to the mag plate?  The only wire I have under flywheel runs to the points.   Thanks for any help.  I’ve never ran this on a boat so stopping would be a great feature.   Brian.

try gounding anywhere  you can as long as the  normally open kill button will ground the points

Thanks.  I added one from the bottom of the mag plate to the second prong and now it will turn off.   Thanks! That puts me one step closer to the water test.

Glad to hear you got that sorted. The PO-15 is probably my favorite motor. It starts easily and dependably once you get used to the starting procedure. Lots of fun to run and get to know. They will idle down pretty well with some carb/spark adjustment and will shut off if you fully retard spark as well, so I don’t often use my kill switch.

Make sure you bring extra fuel along as they are thirsty!
