Does anyone know about the underwater exhaust. Is that a factory option for these motors?? I looked at it and it looks like factory or someone did a really good job fabricating it . The piece that connects tube to lower unit it aluminum. Thanks all
October 23, 2016 at 3:40 am #46344That added exhaust adaptor was, I believe, an after market accessory not built by Johnson. It was used to get around having to periodically clean carbon out of the drive shaft housing, but defeated the reversing feature. . . 😉

October 23, 2016 at 3:38 pm #46367Not many guys like to comment on pricing on here. Varies wildly from area to area. Condition important as well. That one needs some love obviously. Are you trying to sell it, or thinking of buying it?

and that makes me think…..it is homemade
also the way it is attached to the manifold
😉 .October 23, 2016 at 5:06 pm #46373yes i cleaned it up and it is in great condition minus the decal on the tank – paint is 75% – prop looks like new – i polished the prop to a nice shine and the brass guard tubes around it i cleaned those up as well to a brass shine – the decal is about the worse thing – i washed and waxed it so that pic was right from the start – i already own it – plan on displaying it but might sell if price is right. And yes the aluminum piece i figured was a made afterward since it didnt really match anything else on it – but they did a good job attaching the exhaust.
October 23, 2016 at 5:09 pm #46374Only thing that gets me is how good it goes into the exhaust tank – that part fits like a glove so it must be an adapter that was aftermarket or something – they did a great job with the bend of the tube also – so yes an aftermarket kit if could of been – the exhaust tube is nice and solid also – no wobbles or anything is attached really well – i imagine that kit is pretty old also then if it is a kit.
