Could someone please tell me what is the best repair manual for a 56′ Johnson CD-13A and where to find one. I would also like to know if I have to remove the power head to replace the carrying handle and steering / throttle handle. I will eventually need all these parts both broken and missing so a source for these parts would be appreciated also. Thank you.

June 7, 2019 at 10:59 am #176805Johnson Service Manual, 10th Edition. On line, free at http://boatinfo.no/lib/johnson/manuals/1922-1964johnson.html#/0
You don’t have to remove the powerhead, but it is easier if you do. Besides, you have to remove it anyway to service the water pump.

The bad news is yes, you do have to remove the powerhead to replace the carry handle but the good news is you can remove the powerhead, exhaust housing, and the gearcase all in one piece. This will save a lot of work by not having to remove the powerhead separately, unless you are also servicing the water pump at the same time.
