So just got an old Johnson for winter project but serial number mostly rubbed off fly wheel, can only see “A1…” is there anywhere else to look to identify it? Will try to post pictures later.
      No model just serial.

It seems to me they were also stamped on the engine block – or was that a later model ? That one is a model “A” ( 8^D)

Fun little motors to run and normally getting them up and running is not to bad to do. This is what got me into the old outboards.

Gary I looked could not find anything but did not take apart yet. It is an interesting little motor, it has a lot of bolts lower unit with a grease fitting…that’s smart.
Looks like somebody welded the prop shaft housing near what looks like a piston water pump?
Gosh need to figure out the number to get a manual and proper parts.

Stand the motor upside down and look on the crank case next to the cylinder, should have the numbers stamped there…

#A 1805 would be mid 1922 .Should have cast aluminum tank, steel down tube, steering rail, tiller tube and air horn.Looks like your tank, flywheel and mag plate are from later motor.

Ya i think your right Stanley , looking at pictures (joeoutboard.com) has an A2222 and wheel, tank and what can be seen of mag with handle and stop button are different.

Looks like my coil’s secondary winding is shot…..correct me if I’m wrong but test for continuity between the two spark plug wires right? (One coil with two spark plug wires coming off it) Not spark plug wire and ground like the newer coils.

Any ideas who has sells these coils?
