I’ve been spending some time reading old posts on any site I can find that somewhat pertain to what I’m working on…
I stumbled on a thread started way back in 2015 on iBoats regarding a TD20 serial number. I’ve always wondered why my serial number looked odd, but I just chalked it off to a very tired line worker on the day my motor was built.
Please take a look at the pic. The thread I read talks about a Petersborough facility that built TD20s with 5 digit serial numbers. Is that possibly what I have here, or was there just accidental space put after the 5th digit and what looks like might be a “1”?
Here is a link to the thread

Just curiosity, nothing earth shattering.
Thx

Canadian and US built Johnsons used separate groups of numbers. Hence the Canadian motors, with lower production numbers than US models, will always be numerically lower than US built models of the same year.
Here’s a list of serial numbers for Canadian (Peterborough) built motors followed by a list for US built motors.

Not sure what the trouble is, looks perfect from here.
The numbers are 71856 (and what looks like a “-” dash) (or a space) then a “1”?
I will edit for sizing and resend from my computer.
If I’m right, then I might have a ’48 according to the chart. Dors anyone know of any other differences that would help tell us?
Thx!

Maybe this will help. The pic with the red arrow is my serial number, showing the big space between the 5th and what might be the 6th digit. (maybe a “1”)?
The 2nd is an example of what I see on Fleabay and this site all the time. The numbers are lined up well and close to each other.
Again, no biggie, but I am curious if I have a Canadian unit or not.
Thanks!
