What socket or other tool do I need with my torque wrench to tighten the flywheel nut?
While I’m here what is the correct torque?

Here is the official tool, Phil:

Correct torque according to the Mercury Master Manual is 60 ft. Lbs.

They also recommend an external star washer under the flywheel nut.

Oh good grief! What ever could have justified that?!

It looks like it accepts a recoil ratchet gear.. is that what’s going on, here?

Hahh, funny thing is that I don’t use that tool. Per a very knowledgeable Merc guy around here, I just protect the nut with with a piece of canvas strap and tighten the nut down down good with a monkey wrench. Scientific, nope … but I’ve never had an issue with the couple Mercs I’ve had with that annoying nut.

As for the nut itself, the recoil pawls engage it when starting the motor. Interesting recoil concept…I’ll leave it at that.

Thanks, jpatti, that’s how I got the nut off. How long an adjustable wrench, how many hits with how heavy a hammer?

I’m sure it’s the only KG7 I will ever work on. A tool that price for one short job just does not seem right. All thanks to Karl K. And his wacko ideas, full time genius, part time wacko.

Drill 9 holes, one pc hex stock of about 5/8 assemble and whallah!
