      What is the Correct Lenth for the 1954′ Johnson 5 1/2 HP Shock  Absorber  located in the Lower Unit  ?

          just tap it down and spot weld it…

          clean any burrs   and run with a shear pin .

            Make sure it remains true when you weld it.

                You should be able to crush it back to the correct length with a press or big hammer and be good to go. If you do decide to weld it, mounting it in a lathe is best to keep it running true. If welded, the props drive pin will now become a shear pin and should be made of brass or other soft metal. No stainless or monel.
