Thanks Joe, I believe I still have the JD pony motor coil from my failed
Neptune transplant, so I may be looking for it when I work on my Lauson twin.Prepare to be boarded!

July 19, 2021 at 10:37 pm #243315Thanks Mas and Tubs. Not sure why I could not get the JD Pony motor coil
or the B&S coil to work out on my Neptune with the Eisemann coil, but
glad to know there’s hope for the Lauson!Prepare to be boarded!
July 20, 2021 at 12:02 am #243317I had a problem like that on a lauson motor. What i found was high resistance in the jumper lead from the points to the capacitor.

July 20, 2021 at 12:13 pm #243343Tubs, I finally found my JD little horse motor coil photos, and
found out what I thought I knew was only partial reality! It seems my B&S coil swap was on one Neptune, did not
work, and I borrowed an original, good, Eisemann coil and
got it running. The JD coil swap went on a different Neptune twin, and in
fact “may” be a runner. I found a video with said coil conversion therapy,
and it appears to have great spark.I hunted down this motor in the racks today, and it’s tagged,
“Has JD Pony Motor Coil Swap.”
“Carb neck on crankcase restricted and needs work”The neck that the carb bolts too was broken off at one time
and welded back on by someone.
I need to find out if I actually tried running this motor on the JD coil,
and refresh myself what’s actually restricted on the carb neck.Prepare to be boarded!
July 20, 2021 at 6:50 pm #243359From the several “no spark” Lausons that I have seen, the problem is very obvious. The coil insulation, a tar like substance had melted and flowed onto the mag plate. That “tar” is . I believe hard pitch like the stuff that the old roofers used to chunk – up and melt and pump up onto factory roofs.
