I left the shield on the other side of the bearing (beneath the timer plate). It’s got a felt seal in it. You can tell its an old bearing because they don’t use felt seals in them anymore, they’ve gone to rubber seals instead. How old it is exactly, I’m not sure. I don’t anticipate a lot of problems with oil leaking through the bearing, I think it’ll get enough oil to keep it happy but not so much that it gets sloppy. One good long hard run on the lake will tell for sure tho.
